Liberal Democrats in Aberdeen have called on Cabinet Secretary for Finance Kate Forbes to activate the Bellwin Scheme to provide additional funds to Aberdeen City Council to meet the extra costs of dealing with the flash floods in Aberdeen on 12th August.
Liberal Democrat Group Leader on Aberdeen City Council Ian Yuill said: “The flash floods have caused damage to schools, roads and other council infrastructure. That will mean the council will have to spend money to make good the flood damage. The Bellwin Scheme is designed for just this type of situation.
“I have contacted Kate Forbes and urged her to activate the Bellwin Scheme so that Aberdeen City Council can receive additional money to meet the extra costs of dealing with the impact of the flooding. The Scottish Government has activated this Bellwin Scheme a number of times in the past to support areas hit by flooding. It now needs to do the same for Aberdeen.”
