Lib Dems surge in Euro election

Liberal Democrats in the North East are celebrating success in 23rd May's European Parliament election. North East Liberal Democrat Sheila Ritchie is now one of Scotland's six MEPs. Sheila is now one of a team of sixteen Liberal Democrat MEPs across the UK.

Across the country, over 20% of voters backed the Liberal Democrats and they were second in terms of both MEPs elected and votes across the UK. In Northern Ireland, the Liberal Democrats' sister party the Alliance Party succeeded in winning their first ever seat in the European Parliament.

Liberal Democrat council group leader in Aberdeen Ian Yuill said "We are delighted that Sheila Ritchie has been elected MEP for Scotland. Sheila will be a powerful voice for Scotland and the UK in the European Parliament.

"The Liberal Democrats believe that Scotland and the UK are better off in the EU. That's why we are fighting for an Exit from Brexit. The Conservatives are making a mess of Brexit, and the Labour Leadership continue to support them.

"The Liberal Democrats want to give the people the final say on the Brexit deal."
