Liberal Democrats members in Aberdeen South have chosen Ian Yuill to be their candidate in the next UK general election. Ian Yuill is Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Aberdeen City Council and has been a councillor in Aberdeen South for over 25 years.
Ian Yuill said: “I am delighted to have been chosen as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Aberdeen South. Whether a general election is called within the next few days or the next few weeks, the local Liberal Democrat team and I are ready. We will be making the strong case for Scotland to remain in the UK and in the European Union.
“Aberdeen is the UK city which will be worst hit by Brexit, whether it is soft, hard or no deal. Yet Aberdeen South has a Conservative MP who is a fanatical backer of Brexit who seems determined to inflict serious economic harm on our city and its residents. Liberal Democrat support has surged across Scotland and the UK over the last few months and we will be working to ensure Aberdeen South has a strong liberal voice in Parliament after the general election.”
Gregor McAbery, Vice Convener of the Aberdeen Central, South and North Kincardine Liberal Democrats, added: “Ian Yuill already represents the Mannofield, Airyhall, Broomhill, Garthdee and Ruthrieston areas of the constituency on the city council. He has a hard won reputation as someone who gets things done for our communities. I know that, as local MP for Aberdeen South, Ian Yuill will be a strong voice for residents and for our city in the House of Commons.”
